SUB-PLOT CHARACTERS
EARL OF GLOUCESTER
Like King Lear, Gloucester is a Foolish old man who is duped by Edmund’s
accusations against Edgar. He remains loyal to Lear and is punished by Cornwall as a result.
EDGAR
Gloucester’s legitimate son and heir, he is forced to flee his father’s home
because of Edmund’s plot. He disguises himself as Poor Tom and links up with King Lear.
EDMUND
Gloucester’s illegitimate son who plots Edgar’s ruin in order to inherit his
father’s wealth, he soon forms an alliance with the evil sisters, Goneril and Regan, and they represent the forces of evil in the play.
