CHAPTER 37
Summary
Edna visits Ad'le who is in labor, anxiously awaiting the arrival of Dr.
Mandelet. This situation causes Edna to be anxious for it reminds her of her own childbirth experiences. Although she strongly wishes to leave, she stays by her friend’s side.
When they eventually part, Ad'le still has thoughts for her friend and she
encourages Edna to think of her children.
Interpretation
This is the last meeting between Edna and Ad'le and she has a parting
message that will ring in Edna’s ears.
